Looking at the life of Christ as our example to follow, just the pure practice of prayer bewilders me. The reality that Jesus prayed. Not only did He pray, but He had a prayer life. Meaning, He had disciplines set in place for prayer so much so that many took notes and wrote them down for us. Jesus didn’t hide that He prayed, and He was sure to exemplified this in His words and deeds. But if anyone didn’t need to pray, wouldn’t it be Jesus?
If anyone could say, “God is going to do what He wills anyway”, wouldn’t Jesus say that? Because inside His heart He was in agreement with the Father and knew the heart of the Father more than anyone. He could just be at peace with how things would work out.
He also didn’t need to “get to know” the Father. He already had an intimate relationship with Him, since they have been together since before the beginning of time. So, it wasn’t like His time in prayer was fellowshipping with the Father for the purpose of getting to know Him and draw closer to Him, He already possessed that closeness.
He also didn’t need to ask God for miracles or breakthroughs- He was fully God and able to perform miracles anytime He wanted. I mean, isn’t it interesting when you think about it? Jesus really didn’t need to pray. So why did He pray?
I don’t want to tell you why I think Jesus prayed. Actually, the purpose of sharing this message, is to provoke us to just spend time meditating on this one truth- Jesus Prayed.
